Long Service Leave Calculator (Queensland)
Queensland long service leave reaches 8.6667 weeks at 10 years of continuous service, and between 7 and 10 years a pro-rata payment can arise on termination, but only when the employment ends for particular reasons. That reason branch is where many employers pay when they did not need to, or refuse when they should not have. This free calculator from Brookvale HR Solutions works out the accrual, and the termination position, under the Industrial Relations Act 2016 (Qld).
Daniel Holbrook advises Queensland employers on long service leave, including the pro-rata termination rules, continuity of service questions, and disputed entitlements. If you need support beyond the calculation, Brookvale HR Solutions offers employee management services and free strategy calls to work through your specific situation.
Calculate Queensland Long Service Leave
Check the current accrual, or calculate a payment on termination. The termination mode applies the reason rules in s 95(4) of the Industrial Relations Act 2016, which decide whether a pro-rata payment arises between 7 and 10 years of service. Casual, variable-hours and mixed full-time-and-casual histories are calculated on total ordinary hours worked, the method the Act prescribes.
Three Queensland industries have portable long service leave schemes with their own rules.
If the employment has been a mixture of full-time, part-time and casual over the years, choose the last option. The calculation then runs on total ordinary hours.
Leave 0 if none has been taken. Any leave already taken is deducted from the balance.
When This Calculator May Not Apply
The calculator covers the Industrial Relations Act 2016 (Qld) entitlement only. Workers in building and construction, contract cleaning, and community services accrue portable long service leave through QLeave under separate rules. Other states and territories have their own schemes. An award or agreement with its own long service leave terms may also provide differently, and service located partly outside Queensland raises questions that need professional review.
If the employment is ending and the final pay is the bigger question, the Final Pay Calculator itemises wages, leave payout and notice, and employee management services cover the process end to end.
